Framing Analysis
The Trump administration issued a proposal under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 to impose tariffs of up to 12.5 percent on imports from 60 countries after the Office of the US Trade Representative found that China and 59 other economies failed to adequately restrict US imports made with forced labor. US trading partners rejected the proposal, which is open for public comment until July 6. The measure seeks to address forced-labor products embedded in global supply chains.
