Thomas Smith defeated the Trump-endorsed candidate in the Republican primary for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District despite raising $1,850 and having withdrawn from the race one month prior. He will face incumbent Democrat Kristen McDonald Rivet in November in a district that includes Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City and that Trump carried by two points in 2024. Smith, a former General Motors engineer, co-founded Jar Head Salsa with his Marine-veteran son.
