Thomas Smith received the Republican nomination for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District with 50.4 percent of the vote to Amir Hassan’s 33.2 percent and Al Lemmo’s 16.4 percent with 99 percent of votes counted. Smith had suspended his campaign in mid-July and endorsed Lemmo, while Donald Trump had endorsed Hassan. The NRCC and RNC Chairman Joe Gruters issued statements supporting Smith after the primary.
