Hungary's parliament elected Andras Baka, 73, as president on Tuesday by a 140-6 vote after shortening the term of prior officeholder Tamas Sulyok via constitutional amendment. Baka, a former Supreme Court head and European Court of Human Rights judge, replaced Sulyok, who had been appointed by Viktor Orban. TISZA holds 141 seats and Fidesz holds 52; Fidesz boycotted the vote.
