Framing Analysis
Hungary’s Parliament elected András Baka president on August 11, 2026, by a 140-6 vote with Fidesz boycotting. The Tisza party, holding a two-thirds majority, had nominated the 73-year-old former European Court of Human Rights judge after a constitutional amendment shortened the term of prior president Tamas Sulyok. Baka is scheduled to be sworn in on August 19.
