Framing Analysis
Vance Boelter, age 58, pleaded guilty on June 11 to six federal charges including two counts of murder by firearm for the June 14, 2025 shootings that killed Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman while seriously wounding state Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette Hoffman. Boelter disguised himself as a police officer during the attacks. Federal prosecutors declined to seek the death penalty, leaving a potential life sentence in a state without capital punishment.
