Framing Analysis
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a case on whether federal law preempts two 2022 Arizona statutes that mandate documentary proof of citizenship on state voter registration forms and direct review of voter rolls for noncitizens. Arguments are scheduled for the term beginning in October after the Court granted the Republican National Committee’s petition to review an appeals court ruling. More than 19,000 Arizonans remain registered without such proof and are limited to federal elections under the federal form.
