Framing Analysis
A study published in Science and led by University of Michigan researcher Julia Cole analyzed 900 years of paleoclimate data and found El Niño events more than 36 percent stronger than the pre-industrial baseline. The current El Niño is forecast to be the strongest on record, with next year projected to set a new global temperature high. Human-caused climate change is cited as a contributing factor to the observed intensification.
