NASA and Katalyst Space Technologies have abandoned a robotic mission to extend the orbit of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory after the Link satellite experienced unresolved attitude control problems. The refrigerator-sized spacecraft, launched July 3 under a $30 million contract awarded less than a year earlier, was designed to rendezvous with the observatory using robotic arms and xenon thrusters but could not complete its objectives.
