NASA and Katalyst Space Technologies canceled the Link spacecraft mission to capture and raise the orbit of the Swift telescope after the vehicle experienced persistent control problems following its early July launch. The Swift observatory, which has observed gamma-ray bursts for more than 20 years, is now expected to reenter Earth's atmosphere later this year due to accelerated orbital decay from solar activity. NASA paid $30 million for the attempt.
