Tahir Hussain, a former AAP councillor, and four co-accused were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots. The court rejected the death penalty sought by Delhi Police, ruling that the case did not meet the rarest of rare threshold. Hussain indicated he would appeal the verdict to the High Court.
