Framing Analysis
The current Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo, declared on May 15 and traced to a February start, has reached 4,381 confirmed cases and over 2,000 deaths according to reports from Associated Press and Africa News. The Bundibugyo virus strain responsible has no approved vaccines or treatments. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated the outbreak is on track to exceed the 2014-2016 West African epidemic that recorded over 11,000 deaths from more than 28,000 cases.
