Framing Analysis
The Bundibugyo virus outbreak in eastern Congo, declared on May 15, has produced at least 930 deaths and 2,344 confirmed cases as of July 18, 2026, with five eastern provinces affected and Ituri the hardest hit. Transmission occurs via contact with wild animals, bodily fluids, and contaminated surfaces, and no approved vaccine or treatment exists for this strain. Twelve attacks on health facilities have been recorded since the declaration.
