Two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela on June 24 approximately 160 km west of Caracas. Official reports indicate 235 deaths, while a missing-persons tracker listed 49,500 unaccounted for and the USGS projected more than 10,000 fatalities. Rescue efforts continued in affected areas including La Guaira, where hundreds were reported trapped under rubble.
