Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs on US goods covering roughly 700 products worth C$27.6 billion at rates of 15 to 50 percent, effective September 8. The measures follow US tariffs of 50 percent on $20 billion of Canadian imports and the collapse of bilateral trade talks. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne described the response as dollar-for-dollar and rate-for-rate countermeasures.
