Hakainde Hichilema was declared re-elected president of Zambia with 61.4 percent of the vote following the August 13 2026 election. Police arrested 11 people including six opposition figures in connection with alleged possession of military weapons, with a raid occurring at the home of candidate Brian Mundubile. The National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Progress rejected involvement in any insurgency.
