A wildfire near Lanton in southwestern France's Gironde region has burned an area four times the size of Paris and forced 220,000 evacuations. Authorities reported calm overnight conditions on Wednesday morning but ordered additional coastal evacuations while allowing some returns to unburned suburbs. The fire started more than a week earlier and faces renewed risk from forecast temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
