Framing Analysis
A clinical trial of two therapeutics for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola began in the Democratic Republic of Congo with the enrollment of the first patient, as announced by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The outbreak, which started in May and has been declared a public health emergency, has produced 1,406 confirmed cases and 438 deaths in the DRC as of 30 June, plus additional cases in Uganda and one in France. The WHO has also added a molecular diagnostic test for the strain to its Emergency Use Listing.
