The US State Department announced sanctions on ICC President Tomoko Akane, senior trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye, nine of the court's 18 judges, both deputy prosecutors, the former chief prosecutor, and one additional prosecution staff member. The sanctions freeze any US-jurisdiction assets of the targeted individuals. The ICC described the measures as a flagrant attack on its independence while stating it will continue its work.
