Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was killed on Sunday during a controlled detonation of an Iranian drone at an air base in Irbil, northern Iraq. The U.S. military is investigating the incident; Swinton will receive a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge, and posthumous promotion to staff sergeant. Two other U.S. soldiers were killed in Jordan during separate Iranian missile and drone attacks the same weekend.
