United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby stated there are no active major merger discussions involving his airline, following American Airlines' rejection of a proposed combination earlier this year. Kirby, who previously worked at American and raised the idea with the incoming Trump administration, spoke at the International Air Transport Association annual meeting in Rio de Janeiro. Recent smaller combinations include Alaska Airlines with Hawaiian Airlines in 2024 and Allegiant with Sun Country this year, while Kirby has consistently ruled out acquiring JetBlue.
