An unidentified drone entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania on August 8 and exploded shortly after 5 a.m. approximately 100 meters inside Bulgarian territory near the Kardam border crossing. The explosion occurred in a sunflower field roughly 1 kilometer from Bulgaria’s Trans-Balkan gas pipeline compressor station and produced no casualties or structural damage. Officials stated the drone carried a significant quantity of explosives and was not detected during its flight; the matter will be raised at a North Atlantic Council meeting.
