British scientists at the universities of Cambridge and Southampton have developed an AI-designed vaccine targeting betacoronaviruses and initiated the first human clinical trial of such a candidate. The project is led by Professor Jonathan Heeney as scientific lead and Professor Saul Faust as chief investigator. Multiple outbreaks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have been linked to this virus family, which continues to mutate.
