Typhoon Noul struck southern China on Sunday with maximum sustained winds of 162 kph at landfall near Pinghai in Guangdong Province. Authorities relocated more than 801,000 people in Guangdong and evacuated over 340,000 prior to impact, while suspending rail services, work, and approximately 350 flights at Hong Kong airport. The storm weakened to a tropical storm after crossing land and is reported as the strongest typhoon to hit China this year and the 12th overall.
