Donald Trump has selected Heidi Overton, deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, to head the FDA according to a report dated August 18 2026. Overton previously worked at the America First Policy Institute and holds a medical degree from the University of New Mexico with surgical training at Johns Hopkins. The FDA has experienced the departure of its prior commissioner and more than 3,000 staff members in the preceding year.
