President Trump has nominated Jay Clayton, who previously chaired the Securities and Exchange Commission, to serve as Director of National Intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard. Clayton is scheduled to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee, chaired by Sen. Tom Cotton, following an interim period in which Bill Pulte served as acting director. Democrats had conditioned renewal of foreign intelligence authorities on ending Pulte's acting role.
