Tropical Storm Lala formed Thursday in the Pacific Ocean approximately 700 miles east-southeast of Hawaii with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. A hurricane watch is in effect for the Big Island, and the storm is forecast to deliver 5 to 10 inches of rain with possible life-threatening flooding this weekend. The center is expected to pass near or south of the Big Island on Saturday before moving south of other islands.
