A total solar eclipse will cross mainland Spain on August 12, the first such event in more than a century. The Moon’s umbra will travel roughly 8,260 kilometers from near the North Pole across the Atlantic, with maximum totality occurring off Iceland’s west coast and up to two minutes and 18 seconds of darkness visible in parts of Spain and Portugal. A partial eclipse will be visible across much of Europe, North America, and West Africa.
