Three lionesses aged 3, 11, and 15 died at Tama Zoological Park in Tokyo over several days in the week prior to a spokeswoman statement, with dehydration and multiple organ failure observed. Ten of 16 lions at the facility had shown loss of appetite and decreased activity since mid-month. The enclosure was closed to the public, and deaths occurred during a period of record heat in Japan.
