Thailand will participate in compulsory conciliation under UNCLOS initiated by Cambodia to address overlapping claims to 26,000 square kilometers in the Gulf of Thailand. Bangkok ended its 2001 bilateral framework last month and has paused other talks while sending two representatives to the UN process. The area contains estimated reserves of nearly 12 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and substantial oil volumes valued at US$300 billion.
