Karmelo Anthony, 19, was convicted in June of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco track meet in April 2025 and received a 35-year sentence. Judge John Roach was removed from post-trial proceedings after an administrative ruling questioned his impartiality based on post-trial comments, with retired Judge Michael Chitty now assigned to decide a new-trial motion by Monday. The recusal hearing included an 18-minute video and occurred in McKinney on Wednesday.
