San Marcos and at least one other Texas city have enacted bans on data centers. Governor Greg Abbott endorsed prohibiting AI data centers in rural neighborhoods during a speech in Bullard, while state Sen. Paul Bettencourt filed a lawsuit challenging the San Marcos ordinance. Texas continues to add data centers at one of the fastest rates in the United States.
