Framing Analysis
Taiwan's government has proposed a defense budget of NT$1.1225 trillion for 2027, an 18 percent increase over the prior year that exceeds 3 percent of estimated GDP. The proposal includes funding for drones and missiles and follows approval of NT$25 billion in supplementary defense spending in May. The opposition-controlled legislature, which delayed the 2026 central government budget for 266 days, will review the 2027 plans before late August.
