The Supreme Court of India, comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi, declined to pass further orders on a plea by the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) challenging the Calcutta High Court's dismissal of its petition against the Chief Electoral Officer's decision on vote counting supervisors for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The bench directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to follow its April 13 circular in letter and spirit, noting that party agents would be present during counting. Disputes exist over whether supervisors would be exclusively from central government employees or from both central and state services.
