James Brasher, a UAW Local 1248 member with more than 30 years seniority, died on August 1 while performing renovations at the Stellantis Mopar Center Line facility. The incident occurred in an unoccupied former administrative building that Stellantis had sold under the 2023 contract authorizing closure of ten Mopar sites. Michigan had recorded 21 workplace deaths by late July according to state data.
