Three wildfires in Spokane, Washington, including the Old Trails Fire, destroyed more than 800 homes and buildings according to NPR reporting. One surviving home belonged to former fire protection engineer Dave Kokot, who used fire-resistant siding, cleared vegetation, and maintained tree clearance. This year's wildfire season has exceeded 10-year averages for both number of fires and acres burned per Axios.
