Framing Analysis
Fourteen-year-old eighth-grader Shrey Parikh of Rancho Cucamonga, California, won the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 28 by spelling 32 words correctly to Ishaan Gupta's 25 in a 90-second spell-off. Eight spellers reached the finals of the event, which awarded Parikh $52,500 plus reference works, a trophy, medal, and travel credits. The competition maintains age and grade eligibility rules that have produced prior ties, including an eight-way tie in 2019.
