The Senegalese government announced on Monday that it would support former president Macky Sall's candidacy to succeed Antonio Guterres as UN Secretary-General. The decision follows a weekend meeting between Sall and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and reverses earlier government accusations of political repression under Sall. Sall had been nominated earlier this year by Burundi, the current African Union chair.
