Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) publicly criticized President Trump for issuing a directive to revert Ford-class aircraft carriers to steam catapults and remove the electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS). The directive, reported on Thursday, also requires replacement of electromagnetic weapons elevators and submission of implementation plans within two months. Trump had previously voiced opposition to EMALS in a 2017 Time magazine interview.
