Romanian forces destroyed a marine drone spotted by a commercial vessel a few hundred meters from the Neptun Deep gas project at 6:28 a.m. local time. F-16 jets responded after the sighting, and President Nicusor Dan attributed the incident to Russia while EU officials described it as hybrid warfare. The project, owned by OMV Petrom and Romgaz, is scheduled to begin production in 2027.
