A volunteer cataloger at Britain’s National Archives discovered a copy of the Exeter printing of the Declaration of Independence in late May while processing 18th-century Royal Navy records. The document was attached to a report on the 1776 capture of the American privateer Dalton and is the only known copy of this printing outside the United States. Eleven copies of the Exeter printing are known to exist in total.
