Polish President Karol Nawrocki proposed withdrawing the Order of the White Eagle from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after Zelenskyy signed a decree naming a special forces unit “Heroes of the UPA.” The decree follows the 2023 award of the same honor by former Polish President Andrzej Duda. The UPA was involved in the Volhynia massacres that killed an estimated 100,000 Poles between 1943 and 1945.
