Campaigning for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections begins August 19 2026 under rules set by the Independent National Electoral Commission. President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, which has held power since 2015, is the party’s candidate; he did not attend the August 18 peace accord signing attended by opposition candidates Peter Obi, Omoyele Sowore and Adewole Adebayo. The accord was organized by the National Peace Committee under former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar.
