Between 50,000 and 60,000 mostly male migrants attempted to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco starting Thursday, resulting in at least 72 deaths from drowning and stampedes. Spanish authorities installed a 500-meter floating barrier, deployed patrols, and reported that nearly all migrants returned to Morocco by Sunday, while medical services treated more than 1,000 people. The enclave, normally home to around 84,000 residents, saw Spanish Civil Guard ships search surrounding waters and troops patrol streets.
