Madison police fatally shot 38-year-old Corey Durrell Ruiz, who was armed with a knife, on July 22. Ruiz had a felony record and was non-compliant with supervised release after release from prison in May. The department's last officer-involved shooting occurred in 2015, and Madison officers do not wear body cameras.
