Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear sent a letter to Senator Mitch McConnell demanding he verbally address constituents, demonstrate capacity to serve, or resign, and copied Senate Majority Leader John Thune to urge an investigation. McConnell, age 84 and set to retire in January 2027, has not appeared publicly outside office-released photos for more than 40 days following hospitalization. Kentucky law requires special elections to fill Senate vacancies.
