British runner Josh Kerr recorded a mile time of 3 minutes 42.68 seconds at the London Diamond League meeting on July 18, surpassing the previous mark of 3:43.13 set by Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999. The performance occurred before a 60,000 capacity crowd and earned Kerr a $50,000 prize. Kerr, aged 28, is the sixth British athlete to hold the mile world record.
