Rep. Jim Jordan issued a criminal referral to the Department of Justice against special counsel Jack Smith on Wednesday, alleging perjury in Smith's December testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. The referral claims Smith denied reviewing contents of lawmakers' text messages despite data from Sen. Chuck Grassley indicating his team examined 44 such messages from mostly Republican lawmakers during the Arctic Frost investigation. Smith obtained subpoenas for communication records in that probe.
