The International Olympic Committee suspended the Russian Olympic Committee in October 2023 after it incorporated sports organizations from occupied Ukrainian regions and provisionally lifted the suspension on July 7, 2026. Russian and Belarusian athletes competed as neutrals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with 32 athletes winning five medals combined. The IOC has not yet decided on flag, anthem, or state official participation and has advised sports bodies to end neutral-status vetting for 2028 Los Angeles qualifiers.
