Sir Stephen Timms led a review of Personal Independence Payments whose interim report, published Thursday, states that PIP is not fit for purpose. The report notes that nearly 4 million people in England and Wales claim the benefit, with spending projected above £41 billion by 2030, and describes claimant experiences of assessments as breaking rather than enabling independence. Recommendations are due in the autumn and must remain within existing spending forecasts.
